Volunteer Reception and Music Concert:

June 2, 2016 at HMS!

Howell Mountain School will celebrate the many volunteers that make our school function on a daily basis! Please join us at 5:30 p.m. in the Library.
The reception will be followed by a Music Concert in the Multi-Use Room at 6:00 p.m.
We hope to see you there!

School Work Bee:

Please join us on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for a school work bee. We have big jobs and small jobs and everyone is welcome! We are short on tools so if you have any gardening tools, paint brushes, or anything else you think might help, please bring them along!

Town Hall Meeting Update:

The Town Hall Meeting is for the purpose of educating the Angwin community about what the process would look like if Howell Mountain Elementary School District wanted to merge with St. Helena Unified School District.  This meeting is only to discuss information regarding district mergers.  Larry Shirey, Field Representative, School Fiscal Services Division, California Department of Education, will be providing this information and answering any hand-written questions from the audience.  Jennifer Kresge will be facilitating the meeting.

School Board Vacancy:
On April 6, 2016, a vacancy was created on the Howell Mountain Elementary School District Board by the resignation of one of its members.
On April 18, 2016, the School Board took action to fill the seat on a provisional basis through appointment, the successful candidate filling out the remainder of the former trustee's term which concludes in December of 2016.
Appointees can file and run for election to a full four-year term later this summer.
To apply, individuals must be 18 years old, residents of the Howell Mountain Elementary School District, and be registered voters.

Completed applications are due to the District Office by 4:00 p.m. on April 29, 2016. Interviews and appointments will be made at the May 4, 2016 Regular Board Meeting, held at 7:00 p.m. The chosen candidate will be sworn in and seated on the board immediately following selection.
We are trying to schedule an informational meeting for prospective candidates. Stay tuned for further information.

As you walk around town, you will probably see our Town Hall Flyer (which can be viewed by CLICKING HERE). If you would like flyers of your own to post around so that we're sure we have a good sized audience, please contact the school and we can give you some or email one to you! Talent Show (April 14th) and Spaghetti Feed (April 21):
Howell Mountain School is pleased to announce two upcoming events!
On Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. the staff and students will put on the HMS Annual Talent Show! Please join us and support everyone as they take to the big stage and show us what talents they have!
The following Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 5:30 p.m., the 7th and 8th Graders are holding a Spaghetti Feed to raise funds for their annual overnight field trip; this year to Marin Headlands!
We hope you can attend these two important functions!

Town Hall Meeting:
District Merger Discussion
Please join us on April 27, 2016 for a Town Hall Meeting to discuss the idea of merging the Howell Mountain Elementary School District with the St. Helena Unified School District.
The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. and there will be a presentation on the process involved in merging two school districts. We ask that everyone attend this important meeting to ensure your voice is heard.

It has come to our attention that there has been some difficulty locating information regarding Board Meetings. Please be aware of the following changes made to our website.
  • As has always been the case, regularly scheduled Board Meetings are posted on our website calendar. A link to the calendar can be found in the navigation bar above.
  • We also post all agendas for upcoming meetings under "Current Board Agenda" on the left-hand side of the home page in the Site Links menu.
  • Due to a recent, complicated Public Records Act request, we have discontinued the practice of posting the agendas under the District Info section of the web site. The Agendas listed under District Info are kept there for archiving purposes only.
  • The district now posts complete Board Packets under the District Info link (see Board Packets) in order to provide greater transparency and to limit the work necessary in fulfilling requests for this information. The direct link to the Board Packets can be found by CLICKING HERE.

HMS Community Food Drive!

Share what you can this week with our Napa Valley Community. Please bring unopened non-perishable and canned food items to the office between Monday 11/16-Friday 11/20. Your donation will help families throughout our county celebrate Thanksgiving.


Howelloween Parade

Annual Howelloween Parade!

Join us on October 30, 2015 as we parade from the school to the fire station along White Cottage Road and College Avenue.

We leave the school at 1:45 p.m. and will look for all the Angwin faces along the route! Come support our Ghosts and Ghouls!!!
After School Program Harvest Festival!

Mark your calendars! The ASP will be hosting a Harvest Festival to raise funds for our "Shrubs to Grubs" garden program. Join our After School Program on Friday, October 16, 2015 from 3:30 - 6:30 pm. We will be selling tickets for games, food and fun!

Many people were displaced by the Valley Fire, and are in need of support. We have seen many Howell Mountain School parents give their time to make a difference at the Evacuation Center in Calistoga.
The school has cancelled our Beautification Day (originally scheduled for Saturday, September 19th) in order to free up the people who wish to help out those who have been impacted by the fire.
At this time, we are being told that there is an immense need for sorting and organizing the donations that are arriving at the center in Calistoga. We have been asked to direct people who with to help to report to the RV Park Section of the Calistoga Fairground and speak with Shane. He is the organizer of this section of the Center.
Limited parking is available at the Mt. Helena Golf Course, and there is also street parking. Carpooling might be the best solution to the parking issue.
Thank you to all who donate their time and other resources during this crisis.
School Closure - UPDATE - Monday 3:40 p.m.
NEW UPDATE - September 15, 2015 @ 1:00 p.m.
School will reopen on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. Please arrive on time as school will start promptly at 8:30 a.m. Thank you for your patience during the past few days.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to continued uncertainty regarding the Valley Fire, the decision has been made to keep the school closed on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. Please be sure to watch both our Facebook Page and our Website for further information. We will provide updates as they become available. 
UPDATE - Please check back here for news of future school closures. We hope to have a concrete answer by 5:00 p.m. today, September 14, 2015 

Dear Howell Mountain School Parents.

Due to the evacuations, both mandatory and voluntary that are currently affecting our community in response to the Valley Fire, we have chosen to accept the recommendation of the Napa County Sheriff’s Department and close the school on Monday, September 14, 2015. We are in constant communication with emergency responders, and will make any decisions about further closures as soon as we have the necessary information.
